Day 17 - The Beauty of Humility

Written by Jonathan Temple

Humility is the perfect reflection of Jesus. As Christians, we are to take on the same attitude as Christ. Philippians 2:5-8 beautifully represents the humility of Christ: leaving everything behind—the beauty of heaven—and giving up His divine privileges just to save His children. He took on the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. He was fully God, but did not think of His equality with God as something to cling to; and yet, when He appeared to us, we rejected Him. He came to do the Father's will, which was to die the death of a crucifixion. The Creator came to save the created. The Bible says we are to be like Jesus, and this does not skip over humility. Choosing humility is not in our nature; it is often hard to do. It is natural for us to think we know best and believe we can do things our own way. However, God has a special promise for when we choose humility and submit fully to Him. He says so in Matthew 11:28-30. Are you tired? Are the burdens you carry too much? Have you been seeing the same things again and again because you think you are going the right way? Pride doesn't admit to being wrong; it will cycle and see the same scenery over and over, preventing you from seeing what God has for you. Submit to Him. Go low, get under His yoke. Let Him teach you.
